Unbuilt, Wellesley Court was designed to be immersed in the urban fabric of Albuquerque’s Nob Hill district. The 8 apartment units encircle an elevated private courtyard. Accessed via two narrow channels reminiscent of Venetian streets, the plaza is the focal point for the small community.
The mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments are defined by public spaces - living rooms, kitchens, balconies - on the plaza level and bedrooms on the second level with views of the Sandia Mountains to the northeast.
Wellesly Court’s ground floor parking garage is a masonry plinth which supports the plaza and apartments. Despite its heavy base, the building floats above the street edge with balconies and floor planes gliding over the masonry walls.
